THE CANYON HOUSE IS SITUATED ON A SPECTACULAR SITE OVERLOOKING THE RIO GRANDE VALLEY, AND THE MAJESTIC SANGRE DE CHRISTO MOUNTAINS, FURTHER EAST. THE HOUSE PLAN IS A SIMPLE PIN WHEEL, FROM WHICH SPATIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE HOUSE ARE PLANNED. ORIGINATING FROM A CENTRAL ENTRY FOYER, THE HOUSE UNFOLDS ALONG THE WINGS OF THE PIN WHEEL, STRETCHING INTO THE LANDSCAPE IN CARDINAL DIRECTIONS, GIVING THE HOUSE AN EXPANSIVE FEELING OF OPENESS, AND RICH, VARIED SPATIAL EXPERIENCES WITHIN THIS TWO-STORY HOME.

GEOGRAPHIC AND CULTURAL REFERENCES ARE INCORPORATED IN THE HOME’S MATERIALITY. EXTRAORDINARY HAND-PLACED STONE WORK FORMS THE BASIS FOR THIS HOME’S OMNI-PRESENT PHYSICAL STRUCTURE. INTERWEAVING WITHIN THIS STRUCTURE ARE HEAVY WOOD BEAMS AND COLUMNS WITH SPECIALITY STEEL FASTENERS AND ANCHORS, AND LARGE EXPANSES OF GLAZING TO LEVERAGE THE SITE’S STUNNING VIEWS. SITUATED ABOVE THE STONE ABUTMENTS IS A COPPER CLAD “CLOUD”, THE MASTER BEDROOM, WHICH HAS COMMANDING VIEWS OF THE UNIQUE AND TIMELESS AREA GEOLOGY.
